Happy October! I am pleased as punch to share amazing news: The VORTEX‘s production of Funny, Like An Abortion has been nominated for B. Iden Payne Awards! The VORTEX's production was the final production of Funny, Like An Abortion‘s National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere, which rolled around the country starting in the Fall of 2023, and ending in the Fall of 2024.
The B. Iden Payne Awards recognize “outstanding theatrical performance, production and design in Austin.” I am so incredibly proud that this production is being recognized! Funny, Like An Abortion is nominated in the following categories:
- Lead Performer: Daniela Recabarren (Jade)
- Properties Design: Amanda Alch
- Puppet Design
- Small Cast: Kat Adams (Monroe) and Daniela Recabarren (Jade)
- Original Feature Length Script: Rachel Bublitz (me!)
- Movement Design: Darren Peterson, Bonnie Cullum and Matt Hislope
- Dramaturgy: Insha Iqbal
